University Alliance

University Alliance

At Tourism Queensland we recognise the importance of attracting highly skilled and knowledgeable people to our organisation. One component of this strategy is to identify, recruit and utilise the skills of high performing students and graduates.

Since 2004, the University Alliance has been the official initiative that links Tourism Queensland with students from prominent universities in Queensland. Through the University Alliance, Tourism Queensland gives students studying undergraduate degrees in tourism, business, marketing or a related discipline the opportunity to undertake practical work experience. In our effort to support universities and the future leaders of our industry, Tourism Queensland is developing strong sustainable partnerships with universities as an opportunity to:

  • Provide "real business" projects to benefit students learning,
  • Utilise highly skilled students as extra resources for TQ,
  • Identify and recruit future talent to our business,
  • The University Alliance provides students with several different opportunities
  • These include involvement in Adhoc Project Placements, University Project Teams as well as TQ's Graduate Program for students who have completed their study.

Adhoc Project Opportunities

The adhoc projects are business related projects, which are recruited for as the need arises. They provide "work experience" opportunities to students who have identified a clear goal to work with Tourism Queensland. The projects are flexible to business needs as well as students needs. When they do arise we will post them on our Opportunities @ TQ site and university career websites.

Graduate Opportunities

The Tourism Queensland Graduate Program is a 12 to 18 month accelerated development program for university graduates with a passion for excellence and a drive for success. During the course of the program graduates will participate in a range of projects throughout the organisation aimed at gaining maximum exposure to the tourism industry and TQ. It is a flexible program and due to the nature of our organization requires self lead, proactive individuals who are goal orientated. We aim to identify our graduates from the project teams and adhoc project participants who offer their time in the business.

University Project Teams

Being involved in a project team gives students the opportunity to work as part of a team on a "real work place" project that adds value to TQ's business and allows students to develop their work place skills. The project team manages their work and meet weekly, working closely with staff at TQ to complete the project, which will be presented to the Executive team at the completion of the project.

Currently we are working with the University of Queensland, Griffith University and QUT we will be investigating links with other universities in the future. As such we welcome all high performing students to apply when advertised for University Alliance opportunities regardless of which university they are from. We aim to recruit for these in March of each year & the project team works together over a period of 2-3-months (1 or 2-days per week). When positions become available, they are advertised either on our website or on career sites managed by the universities ( We do not keep resumes on file) .
