New campaign offers Brisbane getaways - with giveaways!

Free nights in Brisbane and other local giveaways will be on offer as part of a new $1.3 million tourism marketing campaign to tempt southerners to Queensland, Tourism Minister Peter Lawlor said today.

Mr Lawlor said 13 Brisbane deals were part of Tourism Queensland's new 'Queensland's Getaway Giveaways' retail campaign which runs for the next four weeks until mid-March.

"Tourism Queensland has joined with major industry partners Flight Centre, Virgin Blue and Infinity Holidays in this exciting campaign which will give consumers even more reasons to holiday in Queensland in 2010," Mr Lawlor said.

"There are more than 130 deals on offer from Queensland operators, including accommodation providers, tours and attractions, with 13 of the deals coming from the Brisbane region.

"The multi-media retail campaign will target holidaymakers from southern states and Brisbane to take a short break in Queensland over the next six months, with the added lure of a free giveaway with each offer.

"Every great Queensland accommodation deal will come with a free night and additional giveaway, such as a free breakfast or room upgrade, while tours and attractions have also come on board with giveaways such as free children's entry.

"This gives Australian holidaymakers the perfect opportunity to book a Queensland holiday, helping to keep Queensland's tourism industry strong and protect Queensland jobs.

"The hard-hitting retail campaign follows on from other successful Tourism Queensland campaigns which aimed to encourage Australians to holiday in Queensland such as the 2009 Unreal Deals and Bonus Breaks campaigns.

"Funding for the campaign has been made available as part of the Tourism Action Plan to 2012."

Tourism Queensland CEO Anthony Hayes said the 'Queensland's Getaway Giveaways' campaign would be rolled out through a range of media channels.

"This is another example of the type of ta rgeted tactical marketing we are focusing on," Mr Hayes said.

"We'll be targeting consumers from all angles, via television, radio, press and online advertising, as well as through our campaign partners Flight Centre and Virgin Blue.

"There will be TV commercials running in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane and nationally on pay TV over the four weeks, along with full-page press ads in Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth and Brisbane.

"This combination of extensive advertising, plus the broad retail reach of Flight Centre and Virgin Blue, will make this campaign hard to miss!"

Bookings can be made through Flight Centre on 131 600 or http://www.flightcentre.com.au/fcweb/promotions/queensland/?WT.seg_1=fc00001084.
