Only one day left to enter Sunshine Exchange competition

20 July 2010
Only one day remains for a Brisbane family to have the chance to become Honorary Tourism Ambassadors to Shanghai as part of Tourism Queensland's online "Sunshine Exchange" campaign, Queensland Tourism Minister Peter Lawlor said today.

Mr Lawlor said so far, 4,740 people have entered the competition and the campaign website has attracted 12,675 unique visitors and counting.

"PoPo the panda and KoKo the koala have become online heroes through the campaign which features an online game giving Brisbane families the opportunity to win a variety of travel prizes including the opportunity to be Honorary Queensland Tourism Ambassadors to Shanghai," Mr Lawlor said.

"The online competition will provide the opportunity for a Brisbane family to visit Shanghai for a five-day Queensland Tourism Ambassador 'family exchange', where they will visit the Shanghai World Expo and other local sites, make Chinese friends and tell them what they love about Queensland.

"Shanghai and Queensland share an Expo "sister city" relationship and China is one of Queensland's fastest growing tourism markets so this will offer a fantastic opportunity for a Brisbane family to travel to Shanghai and invite the locals to visit.
"Brisbane families simply need to play the online game to enter the competition which will be drawn on Wednesday, 21 July at 12.00 noon."

Mr Lawlor said Tourism Queensland's China office was running a simultaneous campaign that offered a Chinese family the opportunity to visit the Brisbane region.

"The two families will be able to meet up in their respective countries to impart a bit of 'insider knowledge' on the best things to see and do," Mr Lawlor said.

"Game players can choose their mascot - either PoPo the panda or KoKo the koala and make them fly through a range of Brisbane scenes, collecting experience tokens along the way.

"In addition to visiting the Australian Pavilion in Shanghai, t he winning Brisbane family may get to visit the Chinese family's workplace or school to tell them what they love about Queensland.

"In this way they will become honorary tourism ambassadors for our state."
