BUNDABERG DEVELOPMENTS - Updated January 2008

Destination Action Group

The establishment of Destination Action Groups (DAG) is an outcome of the Queensland Tourism Strategy designed to progress tourism issues and opportunities across the State. The DAG will be a mechanism to build effective whole-of-government and cross-government (local, state and federal) mechanisms for enhancing the tourism industry’s capacity to engage in all relevant planning. A joint DAG has been formed to represent the Bundaberg and Fraser Coast regions. The inaugural Fraser Coast Bundaberg DAG meeting was held in Hervey Bay on 18 July 2007. The next DAG is scheduled to be held in the first quarter of 2008.

Destination Management Officer

The Destination Management Officer is a newly created position and a key action of the Queensland Tourism Strategy (QTS). The DMO, representing the Fraser Coast and Bundaberg tourism regions, will co-ordinate, and assist with, the development and implementation of prioritised projects identified in the Queensland Tourism Strategy, Destination Management Plans and the Fraser Coast/Bundaberg Regional Tourism Investment and Infrastructure Plan. Recruitment for the DMO position is currently underway.

Regional Tourism Investment and Infrastructure Plan

The development of a Regional Tourism Investment and Infrastructure Plan (RTIIP) for destinations across Queensland is also an action coming from the Queensland Tourism Strategy (QTS). A joint RTIIP will be developed incorporating the Bundaberg and Fraser Coast regions. The Stafford Group has been appointed as the consultancy group who will work with Tourism Queensland, Fraser Coast South Burnett Tourism and Bundaberg Region Tourism in the development of the Fraser Coast Bundaberg RTIIP. The Project Steering Group has been formed and stakeholder consultation will begin in February 2008.
