Destination Management Officer

Marc Turner has been appointed to the newly created position of Destination Management Officer (DMO) for the Mackay and Whitsunday regions. The DMO role is a key action of the Queensland Tourism Strategy (QTS). The DMO will co-ordinate, and assist with, the development and implementation of priorities projects identified in the QTS, Mackay and Whitsunday Region Destination Management Plans (DMPs) and the Mackay Whitsunday Regional Tourism Investment and Infrastructure Plan (MWRTIIP).

Destination Action Group

A Mackay Destination Action Group (DAG) has been established to progress tourism issues and opportunities throughout the region. The DAG, another outcome of the QTS, will be a mechanism to build effective whole-of-government and cross-government (local, state and federal) mechanisms for enhancing the Mackay tourism industry’s capacity to engage in all relevant planning. The first Mackay DAG meeting was held in Mackay on March 27, 2007. The next meeting is scheduled for the first quarter of 2008.


Mackay Whitsunday Regional Tourism Investment and Infrastructure Plan 2006 - 2016


The Mackay Whitsunday Regional Tourism Investment and Infrastructure Plan (MWRTIIP) was launched on February 27, 2007 in Mackay.The MWRTIIP, yet another outcome of the QTS, identifies infrastructure and product development opportunities in Mackay and the Whitsunday region with an emphasis on sustainable growth. It contains over 70 key investment opportunities along with the levels of investment needed to deliver them.View the Mackay Whitsunday RTIIP .

Whitsunday and Mackay Islands Visitor Management Strategy
