Climate Change Workshop
Climate Change Workshops for the Tourism Industry
Climate change is becoming an increasingly important issue for the tourism industry. Queensland is projected to become warmer, with sea-level rises, changes in rainfall patterns, and more intense storms and tropical cyclones.
From November 2007 to early 2008, Queensland tourism operators will be encouraged to prepare their businesses for the challenges of climate change through a series of hands-on workshops to be held across the state.
The workshops will be presented by the EPA Office of Climate Change and organised by Tourism Queensland and the Queensland Government in conjunction with the regional tourism organisations, as one of the key deliverables for the 10 year Queensland Tourism Strategy.
This free workshop will give you an update on climate change information and will explore the possible impacts on your region and your business. The workshop will also give you tools for further risk assessment and business planning with a focus on climate change.
The aim of the workshops is to provide you with:
-
The latest official CSIRO/Bureau of Meteorology climate change projections
-
An opportunity to explore the likely impacts specific to your region and to your particular tourism segment (e.g. accommodation, tour operators etc)
-
The basis for further risk assessment within your business, industry sector and tourism region
Potential Impacts of Climate Change
-
Increased risk of heat-related illness and stress
-
Increased risk of higher storm surge events
-
Increase in the number of dry days may help keep a steady flow of visitors
-
Greater incidences of coral bleaching
