Queenslanders have their say on tourism and survey reveals tourism operators need to learn more about benefits of becoming environmentally sustainable.

Social Indicators - A survey of Queensland communities has revealed that the majority of Queenslanders agree tourism has a positive impact on their regions. The ‘Your Community’ survey was conducted earlier this year for the first time, with the intention of guiding state and local tourism authorities in their decision-making processes on tourism development.

Environmental Indicators - A survey of almost 1,000 Queensland tourism businesses has revealed a need for Queensland tourism operators to learn more about the benefits of becoming more environmentally sustainable. The results of the Tourism Operators Environmental Indicators Benchmark 2010 survey showed that while 99 percent of Queensland operators have implemented at least one affordable energy saving, water saving or waste management initiative, half of those surveyed believed there were not enough benefits or cost savings to justify implementing additional environmental initiatives.
