Working with Communities: A Guide for Tourism Operators

This publication provides tourism operators with simple but effective ideas for working with local communities to achieve mutual benefits, improving social sustainability. The guidelines outline a simple seven step process to assist in establishing values, vision, goals and objectives, targeting relevant community groups, develooping an action plan as well as monitoring and promoting successes in working with commuities. The publication includes 12 case studies from around Queensland that highlight the simple ways in which operators and local governments have embraced their communities to the benefit of their operators.

Engaging Queenslanders: an introduction to community engagement

Developed by Queensland Department of Communities, this resource provides a good understanding of community engagement and effective engagement practices. It defines engagement and levels of engagement, outlines the global trends and drivers for increased community involvement in government planning and decision making, and describes the current state of affairs in Queensland.
