Step 3: Reducing Your Impact

Measure, Reduce and Save

Now you have a Sustainability Action Plan it is time to start doing!

Remember this is a process of change management, so it requires your team to be informed, focused and committed to making a change. It may require staff to do things and see things differently so you will need to explain why. Remember that success relies on the enthusiasm and commitment of the people behind them and they need recognition for their efforts.

There are numerous programs available to Queensland businesses to assist in implementing sustainability. These programs are summarised on the Programs to Assist Your Business factsheet.

Once you have reduced as much as you can, you may wish to consider offsetting remaining emissions. Carbon Offsets are simply credits for emissions produced. The credits are created through activities such as tree planting or energy efficient projects. By purchasing these credits you can apply them to your own emissions and reduce you net impact on the environment.

“It is up to each individual to monitor their impact on the environment. Even with just a few small changes to your business and lifestyle, you can make a difference.” (read more) - Milton Kemp, Dolphin Holiday Accommodation
