These pages provide information on Adventure Tourism for tourism businesses, government agencies, education institutions and consumers.
The Adventure tourism pages are divided into sections, and can be accessed through the navigation bar on the left of each page. The site contains links to sites of interest, as well as research reports that can be freely downloaded.

What is Adventure Tourism?

"A trip or travel with the specific purpose of activity participation to explore a new experience or controlled danger associated with personal challenges, in a natural environment or exotic outdoor setting"
In matching this definition, and based on the available data in the national and international visitor surveys, Tourism Queensland has defined "adventure activities" as;
  • Bushwalking and/or rainforest walks
  • Scuba diving
  • Snorkelling
  • Other outdoor activities (eg horse-riding, rock climbing, bungee jumping, four-wheel driving etc)
  • Water activities or sports (eg sailing, windsurfing, kayaking etc)
  • Surfing
