The Drive Tourism Program 2000 - 2002 was a partnership between the Queensland Heritage Trails Network (QHTN), Department of Main Roads (DMR) and Tourism Queensland (TQ). Entirely funded by the Queensland Government, the Drive Tourism Program aimed to:
Stage One of the Drive Tourism Program focussed on four main routes ( DTP Stage 1 Routes ), producing a Corridor Management Plan (CMP) for each, along with road signage, interpretation panels, and collateral:

The approach taken to developing these corridors, along with the signage templates and processes to maintain and erect similar signage, was documented in the Tourism Themed Routes Management Kit (CD).
Through the Drive Tourism Program a new route numbering system was implemented in Queensland ( DTP Stage 1 Routes ).
The alpha-numeric route numbering system now applied nationally will be rolled out on other routes in the Drive Tourism Program Stage Two.
