Drive - Plans & Strategies
Drive Tourism Program
The Drive Tourism Program has been developed to enhance the experience of the motoring tourist throughout Queensland and provide a stimulus to the state's rural and regional tourism industry.
The Drive Tourism Program is a partnership between Tourism Queensland, Department of Main Roads (DMR), the Queensland Heritage Trails Network (QHTN) and the Local Government Association of Queensland (LGAQ). The Drive Tourism Program is entirely funded by the Queensland Government.
The program's objectives include:
- To provide a major stimulus to Queensland's regional and rural tourism industry;
- To establish a state-wide marketing framework and identity for road-based tourism across the state's strategic tourism routes;
- To promote the Queensland Heritage Trails Network project sites and Queensland's Heritage sites in general; and
- To enhance the experience of the motoring tourist throughout the state.
The program has been implemented in two stages:
Stage One began in 2000 and was completed in May 2003.
Stage Two began in July 2004 and will be completed in June 2007.
