Ecotourism

Queensland is a world leader in the provision of high quality, diverse Ecotourism and nature-based tourism experiences. Home to five of Australia's 16 World Heritage Areas and over 450 national parks, marine parks and state forests, ecotourism is one of the state's fastest growing tourism sectors.

"Ecotourism encompasses a spectrum of nature-based activities
that foster visitor appreciation and understanding of natural
and cultural heritage and are managed to be ecologically,
economically and socially sustainable."

Tourism Queensland in the marketing and development of Queensland's Ecotourism and nature-based experiences is committed to delivering on the objectives and actions outlined in the Government endorsed Queensland Ecotourism Plan 2003-2008.

These pages provide information on Eco and nature-based tourism for tourism operators, government agencies, education institutions and consumers.

The Ecotourism pages are divided into sections, and can be accessed through the navigation bar on the left of each page. The site contains links to sites of interest as well as a range of informative publications and research reports that can be freely downloaded from the site. Some publications are also available for purchase in a print published format through the department.
