Brisbane Cruise Terminal - Portside Wharf

Gold Coast Terminal options

The Queensland Government is exploring options for a Gold Coast cruise terminal, recently announcing it had received nine submissions from potential developers for the Gold Coast Marine Development Project. Elements of the project include:

  • A cruise ship terminal on the northern end of The Spit
  • A marina facility for super yachts, recreational and commercial vessels
  • The development a tourism attractions
  • A preservation program for parklands and the provision of recreational facilities for public use

    Townsville Ocean Terminal Project

    A Townsville Ocean Terminal Project is also underway. Construction is expected to commence in 2007. The proposal will provide Townsville with:

  • A dedicated cruise terminal and wharf
  • An integrated residential and tourism development

    Cairns Cityport Development

    The Cairns community can experience Cairns at its very best with the completion of the Cairns Port Authority's (CPA) spectacular $47 million Cityport North project which opened in May 2003.

    Expected to generate long term growth, this world-class marine development includes expanded marina and on-shore facilities for tour operators and pleasure craft and upgraded wharf and terminal facilities for international and domestic cruise liners. Website http://www.cairnsport.com.au

    Whitsundays Anchorages

    The Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority designated 8 cruise ship anchorages in the Whitsundays with up to three cruise ships being able to use the anchorages in the Whitsundays area on any one day.

  • Hardy Reef
  • Cid Harbour
  • Turtle Bay
  • Funnel Bay
  • Port Molle
  • South-east Hamilton Island
  • South Hayman Island
  • Fitzalan Passage

    Far Northern Cruise Ship Anchorages

    The Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority Board designated 11 anchorages for use by cruise ships in the Far Northern section of the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park. These are:

  • Boydong Cays
  • Piper Island (two anchorages)
  • Night Island
  • Morris Island
  • Creech Island
  • Pipon Island
  • Flinders Island Group (two anchorages)
  • Bathurst Bay
  • Ingram Island

    Due to the remoteness of the region and lack of port facilities and infrastructure, the anchorages cater for cruise ships between 70-120m, carrying 120-150 passengers and able to provide their own tourism activities.
