Ecotourism

Queensland is a world leader in the provision of high quality, diverse ecotourism and nature-based tourism experiences.

These pages provide information on ecotourism for tourism businesses, government agencies, education institutions and consumers, and are divided into sections which can be accessed through the navigation bar on the left of each page. The site contains links to sites of interest, as well as research reports that can be freely downloaded from the site.

Further information and resources are available in other sections of the Tourism Queensland Resource Centre. Also check in the Useful Links pages of each special interest section for more information.

Queensland's natural assets underpin the long-term sustainability and competitive advantage of the state’s tourism industry. The nature and style of the Queensland holiday experience is based on a combination of unique and diverse natural attractions and a wide range of high quality nature-based tourism experiences.

Home to five of Australia's 16 World Heritage Areas and over 450 national parks, marine parks and state forests, ecotourism is one of the state's fastest growing tourism sectors.

"Ecotourism encompasses a spectrum of nature-based activities that foster visitor appreciation and understanding of natural and cultural heritage and are managed to be ecologically, economically and socially sustainable."

Tourism Queensland recognises the maturity of Queensland's ecotourism industry and has incorporated its priorities into our core business through the Queensland Tourism Strategy and other planning documents.
