What is in it for me?
Sustainability is a continual improvement process that can help you improve all aspects of your operations including your bottom line. At the same time sustainability makes so much sense for tourism businesses in Queensland because the natural environment, our communities, cultures and businesses are all part of what makes up the tourism industry.
The specific benefits of making sustainability a focus may vary from business to business but there are a number of significant benefits.
The following is an example of what a tourism operator is doing their part in the path to sustainability:
"Hidden Valley Cabins is now saving 78 tonnes of CO2 emissions per year along with an estimated $45000 per year in diesel fuel. Calculating this over a 20 year period and a minimum 5% increase per year in the price of diesel, this equates to $1.2 million in savings. The choice to go 'green' has also helped to offset a lot of their other business expenses."
